Stonebrink

Perched on a wooded ridge in Hayesville, North Carolina, with the Blue Ridge rolling out in every direction, Stonebrink is a mountain home built right at the edge of the view, rugged on the outside and warm all the way through.

Built by Penland Builders, the home greets you with a stacked-stone gable framed in timber posts and crowned with glass, and a pair of wood entry doors set beneath a warm wood-lined ceiling. Dark board-and-batten siding, cedar shake gables, and stained shutters give the exterior a grounded, lived-in character. Out front, a flagstone porch with rocking chairs invites you to slow down before stepping inside.

Inside, the great room opens up under vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings and heavy timber beams. A floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace anchors one side, and a wall of gable glass pulls the mountains straight into the room. An antler chandelier hangs over a long dining table built for full houses, and the kitchen’s rich wood cabinetry and oversized island, lined with bench seating, keep everyone close. Wide-plank wood floors and cable railing tie it all together. Outside, a screened porch and open deck make the most of every sunset the ridge has to offer.
